SOLVED.  I realized I needed to treat it as a MESH and apply the mesh to a relief.

Can anyone tell me how to apply a relief to an imported 3D .stl file?

The file imports just fine and I can use the RENDERED VIEW tool to get a red 3D view of the surface.

However if I select the object and try to apply a relief the APPLY button in that toolbar is greyed out.

Also if I select the object all ISLAND and ROUTING OFFSET buttons are inactive.

There must be some process that will do this.  I've never run into a situation of trying to work with an imported 3D object as vs. one created in Enroute.

Thanks,
BH Davis
